Bukti Negara's fighting principles:
1. The body is divided into upper and lower divisions and three dimensions.
2. When the upper body is locked the lower gets to move and visa versa: when the lower is locked the upper body gets to move. This is part of the basic mechanics of the art.
3. Footwork establishes lines, and is used to calculate which direction the punches and kicks will come from and how to counter, how to move.
The art uses different langkahs or footprint patterns to analyze the opponent and to decipher the keys of attack and defense. Patterns include the triangle, square, cross, diamond, and combinations of the four.
Pendekar stated we have the best footwork; we use our langkahs in everything.
Pendekar always said that we must first learn to control our bodies in order to control our opponents.
Bukti Negara has three main pillars: momentum, angulation, and timing.
These three foundational pieces form the world’s most sophisticated and brutal fighting system. We are a martial science.
Momentum is the quantity of motion of a moving body, the measurement as a quantity of mass and velocity. Velocity gives us speed and direction, which allows us to keep our forward pressure so that we are always on the attack. We prefer never to be defensive; we are looking for opportunity to overtake. Since these principles are integrated, understanding one’s momentum allows us to understand timing and angulation.
Angulation is based on the lines that we use for fighting, which we call Langkahs. These lines help us know from which direction the punches and kicks are coming, and which lines we should use to counter and take over in the most efficient and safe way while creating maximum damage.
Timing. To understand timing, we must understand the various rates of change which occur in sequenced events over a duration of time within ourselves. Our brains must measure the rates of change in movement in ourselves and within our opponents and convert them to conscious experience and then to a faster unconscious experience.
Guru Dan Inosanto appropriately named Pendekar Paul De Thouars the World’s Most Dangerous Man.
